Pesarattu Upma is packed with protein and fiber which is good for your muscles and gut health. It is also flavorful with a combination of crispiness and you can have it anytime you want.

Ingredients

For the Pesarattu:

  • A cup of Moong Dal. 
  • Quater cup of rice
  • Ginger
  • Green Chilies
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Oil 

For the Upma:

  • A cup of Rava
  • Oil or Ghee
  • Mustard seeds (1 tbsp)
  • Cumin seeds
  • Hing
  • Curry Leaves
  • Onion 
  • Green chilies
  • Ginger (grated)
  • 2.5 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves 

Instructions

Step 1: Making the Pesarattu batter

  1. Soak Ingredients: Wash the and soak the green gram and rice together and let them soak overnight. So that they become soft like your heart.
  2. Grind to Batter: Now drain that water out and grind that soaked mixture. Before grinding add ginger ,green chilies, and salt to a smooth batter using enough water.

Step 2: Cook the Pesarattu

  1. Heat Griddle: Now take a pan over the flame and oil it up slightly. 
  2. Pour Batter: Take that batter and pour it gently on to the pan and spread it evenly in circular motion.
  3. Cook pesarattu: Just a some oil in the corners so that it will be easy to flip the pesarattu. 

Step 3: Prepare the Upma

  1. Roast Semolina: In another pan roast the  semolina until it turns light golden like your character. and keep it aside .
  2. Heat Oil/Ghee: Now in the same pan heat the oil and add mustard seeds and let the blast(splutter) and them add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Cook for a few seconds.
  3. Cook Onions and Spices: Add chopped onions, green chili, and grated ginger. Cook them until the onions are golden.
  4. Boil Water: Add 2.5 cups of water and salt. Bring to a boil.
  5. Add Semolina: Now slowly add the roasted semolina while stirring. This has to be done carefully if not your upma would be full of lumps. 
  6. Cook Upma: Reduce the heat like she reduced her attention towards you and keep on cooking for about 4-5 minutes until the upma is cooked and water is absorbed.  Now its time to cover it up with coriander leaves like you cover your emotions with a smile.


Step 4: Serve

  1. Serve Hot: Now just add the upma on top of the Pesarattu and roll it and enjoy it with a coconut chutney .
