Ingredients

For the Chaat:

  • 1 cup boiled chickpeas
  • 1 cup boiled potatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped cucumbers
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1/2 cup sev (crispy chickpea noodles)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup tamarind chutney
  • 1/4 cup green chutney
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt, whisked
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh lemon juice to taste

Optional:

  • 1/2 cup crushed papdi (fried dough wafers)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green chilies

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  1. Boil Chickpeas and Potatoes: Boil the chickpeas and potatoes until tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
  2. Chop Vegetables: Finely chop the onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, coriander leaves, and mint leaves. Keep them ready for assembly.

Step 2: Assemble the Chaat

  1. Mix Base Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the boiled chickpeas, boiled potatoes, chopped onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and pomegranate seeds.
  2. Add Chutneys: Drizzle tamarind chutney and green chutney over the mixture. Mix well to coat the ingredients evenly.
  3. Season: Sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt over the mixture. Add fresh lemon juice to taste. Mix gently.

Step 3: Garnish and Serve

  1. Add Crunch: Just before serving, add sev and crushed papdi (if using) to maintain their crunch.
  2. Top with Yogurt: Spoon the whisked yogurt over the chaat. You can also drizzle some extra tamarind and green chutney on top for added flavor.
  3. Garnish: Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves, mint leaves, and chopped green chilies (if using).

Step 4: Serve Immediately
